Monday Musings (2)

Monday Musings is a weekly meme originally hosted by Should Be Reading. Where asked to talk about one of the following:
- Describe One of your reading habits
- Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself, or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
- What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on?
- What are you reading right now? What do you think of it so far? Why did you choose it and what are or aren't you enjoying about it?
- Do you have a bookish rant?
- Ranting about anything else in general that may or may not be bookish?

Hey guys!!

This week I have decided to post one of my reading habits. I never really noticed it until recently but I found that I  read the best and concentrate the best when there's background noise; whether it be music playing, people talking or the t.v.s on. I can never just sit in the quiet and read. My sister found it weird the other day when I was reading in the living room with the t.v. on. I had put on rerun episodes of True Blood. She went to turn off the t.v. and I had told her not to.

It was kind of hilarious. My family also finds it weird when I read in the car, the noise of the tires on the highway or the road it's kind of peaceful in a way.

What habits have you developed when it comes to reading?

Synopsis

Gwendolyn Kidd has met the man of her dreams. He's hot, he's sexy, and what started as a no-names-exchanged night of passion has blossomed into a year-and-a-half-long pleasure fest. Sure it's a little strange that he only appears in her bed at night, but Gwen is so sure he's the one, she just can't turn him away.

Hawk Delgado knows more about Gwen than she could ever imagine. She's gorgeous, headstrong, and skittish about relationships. But Hawk is facing his own demons, demons that keep him from connecting with anyone. Yet when Gwen is drawn into Denver's lethal underground scene, Hawk's protective nature comes out in full force. The problem is, when Gwen gets a dose of Hawk's alpha attitude in the daylight, she's not so sure he's the one anymore...

My Thoughts

I really liked this novel. It was just what I was looking for; something to fill my head with fairytales and happily ever afters and was just what the book store clerk recommended. I didn't really like it off the top though, I felt like the author introduced too many characters at once and after the first chapter I had to read the back of the book to check and see which guy Gwen was seeing after dark.

After that though the novel really did grow on me. So much so that I can't wait to read the rest of the series. There were some parts though that I felt were kind of thrown in there and the time in the plot didn't really call for them. And with all the available men the author introduced I wonder if they'll be in the rest of the series.

My Rating: 4/5

About the Author

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the west country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.
Kristen was raised in a house with a large muilti-generational family. They lived on a small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, the Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake.
Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up. And she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Stacking The Shelves (1)

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme originally hosted by Tynga's Reviews; where we share all the books we've added to our shelf over the past week.

Hey guys!! I have to admit a few days ago I didn't have anything to feature here today. Then I found myself at the mall and standing in front of my favourite bookstore and well everytime I go I end up buying a new book or two....well usually five.

I had a nice chat with the sales clerk and she convinced me to try out a new contemporary romance series. She seemed pretty thrilled about it and couldn't stop talking about how great it was that I just had to buy the first book in the series. I have yet to read it though.

Anyways heres my haul:

If you've been keeping up with my weekly meme's then you know this book was featured in a few of them. I really wanted to start my summer off with this one and in fact I started and finished it yesterday, I just couldn't wait. It was freaking fantastic and I'm quite sad to see the series end.

This is the first novel of the contemporary romance series that the store clerk couldn't stop raving about. It sounds really good, and I'm hoping thats going to be the case. I've been looking for another good series I can sink my teeth into.

I also want to note that I bought Divergent by Veronica Roth but it's not for me though I will get to read it. It's for my sister who is graduating Monday and she's addicted to the movie. I figure she'll love to read it and if not then it will join my shelves anyway.

That concludes my bookstore haul, the next few novels we bought online and are ebooks.

A couple hopefully nice steamy romances to start off my summer.

That concludes my online ebook haul

The next two books I received in the mail two days ago from giveaways that I've won.

Anywho this is my book haul for the week. What have you added to your shelves this past week?

My Thoughts

I LOVED this novel!!
It took me less than a day to devour it and boy was it good. I was not disappointed in fact I was quite surprised with how it unfolded. I loved the first two in the series, the first was my favorite but this took over after I closed the cover.

This book invoked so many emotions, and it threw curve balls at me that I didn't see coming. The whole plot was enchanting, and inspiring that love can conquer all even where seeds of doubt are planted. The characters developed quite a huge amount in this book from the other two and I found that characters I was annoyed with I grew to love as their real personalities came to light (the girls of the elite).

Thought the ending was quite sad and not what I was expecting, it did have a silver lining, and what I hoped would come of the end happened.
I'm quite elated and my money was well spent. Definitely a book I'm going to be rereading and I definitely recommend this book and series to anyone looking to read about love and forever after.

Book Review: Charming The Alpha

Hey guys here's another book review for you, hope you enjoy!!

Title: Charming The Alpha
Author: Liliana Rhodes
Series: The Crane Curse - #1
Publisher: Jaded Speck Publishing
Release Date: October 1st 2013
ASIN: B00FL3VPD2
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Source: Purchased Ebook

Synopsis

Hannah Crane just graduated college, lives at home with her mom, and has no idea what to do with her life. One night while visiting her grandmother, she's startled by a wold and everything changes.

In the forest investigating a recent rash of murders and missing shifters, werewolf Alpha Caleb Overstreet doesn't expect to run into a human, let alone a witch. Especially not one whose scent tells him she is his other half...or is she?

As the secrets of her ancestry are revealed, Caleb and Hannah are unable to stay away from each other and Hannah finds herself in danger. A rival pack believes her to be at the center of a curse that would enable them to control shifters. But is Hannah the wolf charmer they believe her to be? Or is she really Caleb's fated mate?

My Thoughts

I don't know about my luck lately, I keep getting short books and they haven't turned out to be very good. This book however was an exception. This book was short but it came to an end where the others didn't. I really enjoyed this novel. It was quite hilarious, and I never quite knew what to expect. This author was a first time read for me and I enjoyed her writing style.

The characters were alright though at times especially in the beginning it felt like I was reading about this teen girl, there were moments when I felt the main character Hannah acted in a childlike manner but I guess this was just her personality. She really changed over the course of the book and you didn't really see it so much in the end.

The world that the author created is still a little bit unclear with the fact that it introduced alot of supernatural characters but it didn't go into detail and I felt it left me wondering about said supernatural character. Maybe more will come to light in the rest of the series.

It was still a very good read and I'd recommend this to anyone looking for something quick and sweet and if your into the whole supernatural mythical being things.

My Rating: 4/5

Friday Favourites (1)

Friday Favourites is a weekly meme hosted by Tressa's Wishful Endings that spotlights a favourite author, book, series, publisher, cover, blog ect.

This week on Friday Favourites; for my first Friday Favourites with many more to come I've decided to spotlight a fellow book reviewer and her blog.

Books and Iced Coffee

Before I even remotely touched the subject of reviewing books and publishing the reviews online, Books and Iced Coffee was one blog that I went to when I wanted to find a new book to read. After awhile I realized that I did want to get into the whole publishing reviews because it gave me an outlet for my writing other than writing fiction. Unfortunately I've been up and down with keeping up to date, and at one point I was ready to give it up altogether.

At that point I yet again visited her site looking for another book to read and I was inspired to try again, and again, and again. And I finally prevailed. It amazes me that Books and Iced Coffee and other book reviewer blogs always have new content. As a reader looking for a review and being inspired to read a certain book because of a review, I felt inspired to do the same. I wanted to make people feel the same way.

So to Books and Iced Coffee thank you for inspiring me and being a stepping stone on this path that I am venturing down. Had I not stumbled across your original blog on wordpress I don't think I'd be blogging about books at this time in my life. \

Readers you can find her here.

Who inspired you to do what you've come to love to do?

Whats Next (1)

What's Next is a weekly meme originally hosted by IceyBooks that features 3-5 books that you want or have to read next.

Hey guys! This week on What's Next I'm featuring five books that I'm absolutely dying to read.

The One by Kiera Cass

Synopsis
The highly anticipated conclusion to Kiera Cass's #1 New York Times bestselling Selection series, The One will captivate readers who love dystopian YA fiction and fairy tales. The One is the perfect finale for fans who have followed America's whirlwind romance since it began--and a swoon-worthy read for teens who have devoured Veronica Roth's Divergent...

The Selection changed America Singer's life in ways she never could have imagined. Since she entered the competition to become the next princess of Illea, America has struggled with her feelings for her first love, Aspen--and her growing attraction to Prince Maxon. Now she's made her choice...and she's prepared to fight for the future she wants.

Find out who America will choose in The One, the enchanting, beautifully romantic third book in the Selection Series!
What started out as just reading the first book for the heck of it and because my little cousin was looking for a story to read, turned into a blossoming love for the characters and the series. This series has enchanted me and as sad as I am to maybe be seeing the end of it, I can't wait to read the last novel and find out what happens to America this time round.

The Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare
Synopsis
Tessa Gray should be happy - aren't all brides happy? Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a new of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute. A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa's heart, will do anything to save her.
I have been on the long road for this series. I like this series above all other books Ms. Clare has written. Who am I kidding, I LOVE this series. Definitely way better than the Mortal Instruments series. I think it's time I finally set aside the time to finally finish the series.

The last three are books I found that look and sound interesting and are perfect to kick start my summer tbr list.

Taming Romeo by Rachelle Ayala

Synopsis

Evie Sanchez is recovering from heartbreak when she runs into Romeo Garcia, the boy she left behind.

Now a movie star, Romeo never understood why Evie stood him up. He whisks her away on his motorcycle and reignites her love with romance and skillful lovemaking.

Is the fantasy real or revenge? Evie and Romeo are about to discover if their buried feelings will explode in pure delight or utter disaster.

Her perfect love may be right here under her nose, but for Rhonda this is one last complication she could do without. She intended to get home, bury Daddy and sell that dilapidated monstrosity and get back to LA, as fast as she could. But plans never quite work out just as we hope.

Rhonda will have to call on her old BFF's Blake and ViVi, to help solve the family mystery. But sometimes things aren't as they seem. And people aren't always who we thing they are.

Beth Albright is at her southern best with this new series of sexy romance, laugh out loud comedy, and edge-of-your-seat mystery - exactly what we have come to love in the Beth Albright brand! So grab your girlfriends and put on your seatbelts for this one -- an exciting, unpredictable joy ride through the Deep South that will keep you guessing until the final shocking pages.

Our Kind of Love by Shane Morgan

Synopsis

Reign is convinced that Nate is the perfect guy for her. That's until Micah walks into her Mom's restaurant looking for a job. Now Reign can't seem to stop her heart from yearning for the guy with the mysterious blue eyes and melting smile.

So dear readers, you've seen the five books that I really want to read right now. But now I have an issue; which one gets to be read first? Whats are your must reads right now?

Happy Reading!!

Book Review: Lay Me Down

Title: Lay Me Down
Author: Erin Kellison
Series: Reveler - #2
Publisher: Fire Flower Publishing LLC
Release Date: May 12 2014
ISBN-13: 978-0-9904-1070-6
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Fantasy
Source: NetGalley

Synopsis

Able to navigate sleep's vast dreamwaters, wild child Maisie Lane makes easy money as a courier delivering packages from one dream to another. So what if her employer's are on the shadier side of the law? Her sister thinks she's living for the pleasure of the moment. Pleasure is involved - why shouldn't it be? - but every step Maisie takes is part of a careful plan. That is, until she crosses into a dream so evil, she has no choice but to run.

Special Agent Steve Coll is tasked to recruit Maisie for Chimera, the organization that policies shared dreams. At first he's taken with her funny and carefree spirit, then brought to his knees by her touch and passionate soul. Touching her is forbidden ecstasy, but Steve can't resist breaking rules with Maisie. A darkness is gathering, evil preparing to strike, and only Maisie stands between it and innocent lives. No matter what happens, Steve won't let her stand alone - he'll die before he leaves her side.

My Thoughts

I always give a book many chances before I wave the white flag on books I've absolutely lost interest in. With that being said I've never not finished a book and had to post a review.

The Reveler series has good structure, I really did enjoy the first one, except for the fact that it was only ten short chapters and seemed to cut off when it was just getting good. Enter in the second novel and it's a whole new character pov. I feel kind of robbed. I don't like Maisie at all and being stuck in her pov kind of sucked. I was just getting to know Jordan and Rook when Maisie and Steven rolled right in and took over. Again like the first the book is short but as short as it is I've lost all interest in finishing it.

My Rating: 1/5

Monday Musings (1)

My First Monday Musings - originally Musings Monday and hosted by Should Be Reading, is a weekly meme where your asked to talk about one of the following each week:
- describe one of your reading habits
- tell us what books you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose those books
- what books are you currently desperate to get your hands on
- what are you reading right now, what do you think of it so far, why did you choose it, what aren't you enjoying
- a bookish rant
- a random ramble

This week on Monday Musings, I have a bookish rant.

I was recently cleaning up my bookshelf and trying to find a home for some books my dad rescued for me. My book collection has gotten so huge that the books finally exploded out of the cupboard. I decided what the hey I'll just donate some of the books I don't like or won't ever read to the local library. I would rather donate to the library where people can read the books for free, instead of donating them to value village or goodwill where people will have to buy them to read them.

When researching about the libraries policy on accepting a donation of books, they stated on the website that they discontinued to accept donations of books. Why? Because it costs too much money to put the books into the system. < I think that's kind of ridiculous. Wouldn't I be saving them money, they wouldn't have to buy the books like they do with the new, it's a free donation. In my opinion I feel they'd save more money that spend more money.

So now I'm out of sorts with what to do with said books. I'd rather they be given out for free than people have to pay for them.

What are your thoughts on this subject?

Sunday Post (1)

Welcome to my first Sunday Post!!

Sunday Post is a weekly meme originally hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer; it gives a chance to recap on the past week, share our book hauls and give a look at what's coming up next week.

This week was the first time I decided to post weekly meme's as a chance to help get back into the habit of posting everyday and getting my blog more publicized.

This week for Top Ten Tuesday, I shared the top ten books that I've read this year. The top three being:

For Waiting On Wednesday, I shared Dream Huntress by Michelle Sharp, a novel I've been waiting a little while to be finally released.

Unfortunately that's as far as I got for weekly meme's minus this one.

This week I also published two book reviews:

and

I haven't added any new books to my shelves this week. Hopefully some to come in the following week.

What I'm Reading
I just started reading the second installment to the Reveler Series by Erin Kellison, the sequel to Darkness Falls; Lay Me Down. I don't like it as much as I liked the first one, which is a shame, I had such hope. Expect a review shortly.

I also started reading Dear John by Nicholas Sparks, another one of Sparks' novels to cross off my reading challenge list.

Coming Up!
Monday Musings: my rant on the fact the libraries in my area aren't accepting a donation of books. Why they aren't and why I think they should.
Top Ten Tuesday: The top ten books on my summer tbr list
Waiting On Wednesday: Do Opposites Attract by Katheryn Freeman & A Shard of Ice by Alivia Anders
